WFOA Conference and Education Scholarship 

WFOA Members may receive scholarship support to attend the annual WFOA Conference, WFOA non-conference Education Classes and GFOA Conference. 



Purpose: 

The Conference and Education Scholarship program exists to support the professional development of our members and finance industry. There are three opportunities 

  • WFOA annual conference scholarship  
  • WFOA non-conference education scholarship
  • GFOA conference scholarship


Guidelines: 

WFOA members whose organizations support their requests can get a scholarship up to two years in a row.  No more than two scholarship requests per entity per year are awarded.


  • WFOA annual Conference scholarship - Reimbursement based scholarship cover the event fees for recipients attendance.  Registration fees are prioritized and offered up to the early bird registration price for our annual conference. Lodging expenses may be approved up to $100/hotel night or actual cost for a maximum of two nights. 
  • WFOA non-conference education scholarship - Reimbursement based scholarship cover the event fees for recipients attendance. Registration fees are prioritized and offered up to the early bird registration price for non-conference webinars and in-person classes. On occasion, lodging expenses for non-conference classes may be approved up to $100/hotel night or actual cost for a maximum of one night. 
  • GFOA Conference scholarship -  Two $750 scholarships to the GFOA conference, are awarded to WFOA members attending GFOA for the first time. Scholarships are limited to one per person every other year and one scholarship per entity. Sitting WFOA Board Members are NOT eligible for a GFOA Conference Scholarship. The top two scoring applications will be awarded the scholarships. Applications will be scored based the following criteria;
    • If entity has received a GFOA Conference Scholarship in the past two years
    • If individual has received a GFOA Conference Scholarship in the past four years
    • The population entity serves
    • The number of WFOA Scholarships entity has received in the past four years



An applicant must:


  • Be an active WFOA member.
  • Provide a letter of support, on entity letterhead, from your organization before a scholarship will be awarded.  It can be from the chief elected (for example, Mayor) or appointed official (such as Fire Chief); in a larger organization, the leader of the finance department can write it.
  • Complete the WFOA scholarship application
  • Pay for expenses in advance with the understanding you will be reimbursed after the conclusion of the event.
  • Complete all CPE attendance submissions at the conference and then provide a proof of attendance with a CPE certification provided by conference producer after the conference (WFOA or GFOA)
  • Provide all receipts of registration payment and lodging (if applicable).  Must be payment receipts, not reservations.


Applications are accepted and reviewed on a first come first served basis 


Deadlines: 

WFOA Conference -  applications open when conference registration opens, typically beginning of May.  No applications will be considered after the registration deadline. 

WFOA Non-Conference Education -  applications must be received no less than three business days prior to class. 

GFOA Conference - applications are due no later than the last working day of February.
