Students Working in Government Scholarship
Government employees enrolled in a qualified education program may receive up to $2,500 in scholarships.
Purpose:
Careers in government finance can be very diverse, stable, rewarding and can offer a rewarding life/work balance and highly competitive benefits. Additionally, it is critical that government has a talented employee candidate pool to support the needs of its critical operations. It is the desire of WFOA to encourage college students to explore a career in government finance and foster those in government to advance their education by providing scholarships to a select group of students each year.
Guidelines:
WFOA will annually set aside funds for a limited number of applicants to receive a reimbursement scholarship of up to $2,500 each for students who are currently working in government.
An applicant must:
- Be attending an accredited community college, 4-year college, or university.
- Have been working in a governmental accounting or finance position in Washington state for at least six months. Interns, permanent full-time and part-time employees are eligible to apply.
- Be pursuing an undergraduate degree or graduate degree majoring in business, accounting, economics, public administration or finance.
- Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
- Ensure their employer must be willing to receive funds from WFOA on behalf of the student.
- Submit an essay identifying how they would benefit by receiving the scholarship and how it would help support their overall career goals.
- Complete a Students Working in Government Scholarship Application (below), provide an official transcript showing their current GPA, and a receipt showing the cost of tuition.
The application will be accepted prior to completion classes; however, all other documentation must be received before the scholarship is awarded at PDSC@wfoa.org.
Applications are accepted on a first come first served basis as indicated in the application guidelines.
Deadlines:
Applications are accepted throughout the year until the scholarship funds are exhausted.
