Washington Secretary of State Media Advisory Issued: December 06, 2007
Olympia... Statewide measures on the 2007 General Election ballot have been certified.
About half of all registered voters turned out for the election, casting 1,645,652 ballots.
Most voters chose to vote by mail, accounting for 92.2% of the total ballots cast. Currently, thirty-six of thirty-nine counties cast their ballots entirely by mail. King and Kittitas Counties have plans to switch to all-mail voting in 2008.
Statewide measures certified today include:
Initiative 960: Tax and fee increases Referendum 67: Insurance claims Constitutional amendment 8206: Establishing a budget stabilization account Constitutional amendment 8212: Inmate labor Constitutional amendment 4204: School district tax levies Constitutional amendment 4215: Investment of higher education permanent funds
Statewide measures generally go into effect today, thirty days after the election. ESSJR 8206 will go into effect on July 1, 2008.
Also certified were the results of State Senate District #19, Brian Hatfield, and the Court of Appeals Division III District #1 Position #2, Debra L. Stephens.
